A sole proprietorship is a business form which is the same as doing business as an individual without a separate legal entity. A person can conduct such a business using their own name, or with an assumed name. To use an assumed name, one must file papers with the county where the business is located.
This type of business arrangement is not often preferred, since the owner of the business is afforded no liability protection. If business activities result in any liability, the owner is personally liable for such liability, and the owner’s personal assets are at risk. Where liabilities are not a concern, this is the easiest way to start and open a business.
